I don’t need a new TV and, chances are, neither do you. But the Black Friday sales have never been about what you need. They are about what you can get. The latent urge to splurge on a happy shiny new TV set is exacerbated every year by discounts around Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and Samsung is hoping to encourage that with this new commercial for its SUHD televisions. In an ironic acknowledgement of the fact that the newest TV isn’t all that obviously better than the one most people already have, Samsung offers a few savvy ideas on how to have a “happy accident” with your old set in order to justify buying a new one.
Basically, please break your TV so we can sell you another one.
