New Mortal Kombat XL Release Has All The Gore & More

New Mortal Kombat XL Release Has All The Gore & More is a post by Travis Pope from Gotta Be Mobile.

In a single trailer video game developer NetherRealm Studios revealed something that’ll make it easier than ever for new players to flock it its brutal Mortal Kombat X fighting game. The developer says that sometime soon it’ll formally reveal Mortal Kombat XL, a re-release of Mortal Kombat X stuffed with an enormous amount of extra content.

It was on social network Twitter that NetherRealm confirmed there is a Mortal Kombat XL release on the way. Mortal Kombat X launched on Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PS4 to critical acclaim last Spring. At the time NetherRealm and publisher Warner Brothers Interactive offered a Kombat Pack that let players get new content for the game on a regular basis without paying for it piecemeal. It’s access to that original Kombat Pack and the recently announced Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack 2 that makes Mortal Kombat XL worth looking into.

After roughly a minute and a half of gory battle, the Mortal Kombat XL trailer reveals that those who buy it will get access to “all additional characters and skin packs” with their purchase. That’s huge as buying each character – and even each Kombat Pack can quickly add up over time.

Interestingly enough, both NetherRealm and Warner Brothers Interactive are staying quiet about two key Mortal Kombat XL release details. Neither company confirmed an actual release date for Mortal Kombat XL. Both companies are staying quiet about how much Mortal Kombat XL will cost too.

Mortal Kombat X has barely fallen in price in the Xbox Store and PlayStation Store since it launched. It’s now $49.99, $10 less than it was at launch. The Kombat Pack is $9.99 now. Even used copies of the game haven’t fallen in price that much. GameStop has used copies of the game on sale for $45.99.  Release details for Kombat Pack 2 are hard to come by. The add-on was revealed at the Game Awards last year, but not much has been said about it since.

Each Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat X contains new characters from classic versions of the game. These characters come complete with their own fighting styles, X-Rays and Fatalities.

Without knowing how much it’ll cost, it’s hard to say whether the Mortal Kombat XL release will be a great investment for everyone. Theoretically, most Xbox One and PS4 owners who were considering picking up the game before release already have.

There is something to be said for users that haven’t yet upgraded to the Xbox One or PS4. Warner Brothers had a version of Mortal Kombat X planned for owners of the Xbox 360 and PS3 gaming consoles. Development issues caused the studio to repeatedly delay those versions of game. Probably realizing that interest in the versions was waning, Warner Brothers officially cancelled Mortal Kombat X for Xbox 360 and PS3 after the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the games launched.

Also interesting are the platforms that NetherRealm confirms Mortal Kombat XL is coming for. At the same time as the trailer reveals what content will be included in the game, it also appears to confirm that Windows PCs won’t be getting Mortal Kombat XL. If there isn’t a version coming for PC gamers, that could trigger a small backlash from dedicated fans. Comments about the missing PC version are building up in responses to the original message on Twitter sharing the video already.

Mortal Kombat XL pre-orders aren’t available in the Xbox Store, PlayStore Store or electronics retailers just yet. Presumably, they’ll arrive when Warner Brothers is ready to share the missing Mortal Kombat XL release details.
