21 Official Moto Mods for the Moto Z

21 Official Moto Mods for the Moto Z is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.

One of the most exciting aspects of recent Motorola smartphones is Moto Mods. Magnetically attachable modules that transform its phones into a TV projector, speakers, a powerful camera, or extends battery life. Moto Mods are available for the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, Moto Z Play, and Moto Z2 Play. Below is a list of any and all official Moto Mods for potential buyers.

If you own one of these phones, you’re likely interested in some of the mods. Unlike LG who only has one or two add-ons, Motorola actually has over 20 different accessories available. Including second generation speakers and battery packs announced in June of 2017.

There are a lot of exciting accessories for any device, but Moto Mods really transform your smartphone experience. Some of the new Moto Mods are a gamepad and wireless charging shells. Read on for more details.

The Moto Z and Z Force have both been available for nearly a year, and most owners have a mod or two. However, those with a Moto Z Play or plan to buy the newly announced Z2 Play will want to get some as well.

Every device in the Moto Z family is designed almost the exact same. This means that each mod fits any smartphone you choose. Additionally, Motorola confirmed these will work for three generations of smartphones. This means the Moto Z2 in 2017 and the 2018 model will all work with any Mod. It’s an investment in the long haul, not just a one-off accessory for buyers.

The JBL Soundboost speaker Mod is $79.99, which is fairly reasonable given it extends battery life and adds tons of sound, along with a kickstand. The projector is more expensive at $299. Then, the power packs to extend battery life range from $59 to $79 with wireless charging. Which is about average when compared to battery cases like Mophie or Incipio. Here are the best mods available, and our slideshow below has additional options and more details for buyers.

Moto Mods attach to the back of these phones thanks to “really strong magnets” and communicate via 16 metal pogo pins on the back bottom of each device. The connection is very tight and secure, and we had no issues while reviewing the phones and modular system. It is smartphone mods done right. This small inclusion makes these phones very versatile.

Instashare Projector

The first and most exciting Moto Mod for the Moto Z, for me, is the Instashare pico projector. This little modular simply snaps on to the back in seconds and instantly transforms the smartphone into a powerful projector capable of streaming a 70-inch HDTV on the wall or ceiling.

Users can project the phone display and popular apps like Netflix, YouTube, HBO Go, and likely games and other things as well. The Instashare projector has a built-in kickstand to allow for virtually any angle of viewing.

It has an included 1,100 mAh battery so owners can project video for an hour without using the phone battery, but sadly it appears to only be 480p resolution.
