Samsung claims flexible phones are ‘right around the corner’
Today at the Rutberg’s Future Mobile conference, the president and CEO of Samsung in North America Gregory Lee claimed that bendable smartphones are “right around the corner.” We’ve heard word that the tech titan is gearing up for flexible displays in 2017, and this may indicate that the Samsung Galaxy X, which is anticipated to be debuted at MWC 2017, may just be bendable. Lee indicated that the company has been working on foldable phones for the last decade, but the only thing that has been keeping them from the market has been prohibitively expensive production costs. Now it seems like manufacturing technology is finally catching up.See also: Lenovo foldable smartphone and tablet concept hands on
We saw two foldable smartphones at Lenovo’s Tech World event yesterday, so it appears like this will be the direction that smartphone development will take in the future. Samsung has previously teased bendable display technology, but we’ve never seen a workable prototype make its way to users’ hands. If Lenovo and Samsung will both be bringing bendable smartphones to the table in 2017, then we can expect some interesting competition in the arena.
What are your thoughts regarding foldable smartphones? Is this a useful utility or just a gimmick that will soon make its way out of the market. Let us know your opinion in the comments below!
