Notifications coming soon to Alexa-powered devices
Alexa-powered devices like the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, or Echo Show will soon support notifications. You’ll be able to turn them on or off with the help of the Amazon Alexa app. Once a device receives a notification, it will alert you with the help of a chime and a pulsing green light. To check it out, all that you have to do is ask, “Alexa, what did I miss?” or “Alexa, what are my notifications?”
AccuWeather, The Washington Post, and Life360 are just some of the companies that are already on board with the program. More of them will follow soon. When the feature goes live, you’ll be able to opt-in for the notifications that are important to you and have Alexa read them out when you want. These could include weather notifications, breaking news, and even Amazon shopping updates, just to name a few.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on when the feature will become available. Amazon claims that notifications are coming “soon” but hasn’t shared a more specific time frame yet.
The Echo speakers with Alexa on board have been selling great so far. According to the research firm eMarketer, they are expected to claim a 70.6 percent share of the US market this year. Google’s Home device, on the other hand, will only grab 23.8 percent of the market in 2017.
