7 Things to Know About the iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.6 Update

7 Things to Know About the iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.6 Update is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

Apple’s iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.6 update is a small bug fix upgrade, but it could help, or hurt, your device’s performance.

The company’s latest software update is smaller than its predecessor (iOS 11.2.5), but it comes with two essential fixes including one for a crashing bug.

If you’re currently running iOS 11.2.5 on your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, you get the smallest iOS 11.2.6 change log and download size.

If you still haven’t upgraded from iOS 10 or if you’re running an older version of iOS 11, your version of iOS 11.2.6 will be larger because it’ll deliver the changes from the iOS updates you missed.

The iPhone 6’s iOS 11.2.6 update is currently treating us pretty well, but we’ve run into some problems with Apple’s newest upgrade.

Fellow iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users are also complaining about a variety of issues including abnormal battery drain, issues with Bluetooth, and annoying problems with various applications. We haven’t seen any of those, but we’ve noticed lag and occasional freezes.

Our guide to the iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.6 update goes over these problems and provides fixes to those in need. It also highlights iOS 11 features missing on the iPhone 6 and provides you with a look ahead at Apple’s plans for the iPhone 6 and iOS 11 in 2018.

We’ve been using the iOS 11.2.6 update on the iPhone 6 for a full day now and we want to start with our impressions of its performance on the 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

Our impressions will take you through some quick thoughts about battery life, connectivity, and overall speed.

Before we relay our impressions, a few notes about the download and installation process.

The iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.6 update is a fairly small download if you're coming from iOS 11.2.5. It's just a few megabytes and it should only take you a few seconds to download it.

The installation process took a little bit longer, just around 6 minutes on our iPhone 6. Exact timing will vary from person-to-person, device-to-device.

If you're installing iOS 11 for the first time, or if you're moving up from an older version of iOS 11, your iOS 11.2.6 download and installation will take longer.

The iPhone 6 is getting older, but our device continues to hold up as we push into 2018.

We've been running iOS 11.2.6 for a short time so we can't speak about long term battery life yet. We can tell you that we haven't noticed any battery drain yet.

Connectivity (Bluetooth, cellular data, and Wi-Fi) remains strong. We've successfully connected the device to Bluetooth devices (headsets and speakers) and several routers including eero.

App performance remains steady. We haven't seen frequent crashes or any catastrophic issues with our core applications.

Random reboots have been a problem on our iPhone 6, but we haven't experienced any while running iOS 11.2.6. That said, we have run into user interface lag during our short time with iOS 11.2.6.

Animations are occasionally choppy and we've experienced some keyboard lag when sending texts via Messages. This was a problem for us on iOS 11.2.2 and iOS 11.2.5 as well.

We've also started to notice slowdown when pulling up Control Center and when pulling down Notification Center.

It's definitely a red flag and we'll keep our eyes on it as we continue to push away from the iOS 11.2.6 update's release.

If you're feeling leery, you might want to wait for additional long-term iOS 11.2.6 feedback to emerge over the next week or so.

In the meantime, take a look at our list of reasons to and not to install the iOS 11.2.6 update on your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.
