7 Things to Know About the iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.1 Update

7 Things to Know About the iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.1 Update is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

Apple’s rolled out a new iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.1 update and the maintenance upgrade could help, or hurt, your device’s performance.

iOS 11.2.1 is now available to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users around the world though it’s much smaller than the previous version of iOS 11 (iOS 11.2).

The iOS 11.2.1 update is a bug fix upgrade which means it brings a short list of bug fixes to Apple’s two iPhone 6 variants.

If you’re already running iOS 11.2 on your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, you get the smallest iOS 11.2.1 change log and download size.

If you still haven’t upgraded from iOS 10 or if you’re currently running an older version of iOS 11, your version of iOS 11.2.1 will be larger because it’ll deliver the changes from the iOS updates you missed.

The iPhone 6’s iOS 11.2.1 update is currently treating us pretty well, but we’ve already run into some problems with the latest version of iOS 11.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users are complaining about a variety of issues including abnormal battery drain, issues with Bluetooth, and annoying problems with various applications. We haven’t seen any of those, but we’ve already noticed lag and occasional freezes.

Our guide to the iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.1 update goes over these problems and provides fixes to those in need. It also highlights iOS 11 features missing on the iPhone 6 and provides you with a look ahead at Apple’s plans for the iPhone 6 and iOS 11.

We’ve been using the iOS 11.2.1 update on the iPhone 6 for a few hours now and we want to start with some initial impressions of its performance on the 4.7-inch iPhone 6. Our impressions will take you through some quick thoughts about battery life, connectivity, and overall speed.

Before we relay our first impressions, a few notes about the download and installation process.

The iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.1 update is tiny download if you're coming from iOS 11.2. It's just a few megabytes and it should only take you a few minutes to download it.

The installation process took a little bit longer, just around 6 minutes on our iPhone 6. Exact timing will vary from person-to-person, device-to-device.

If you're installing iOS 11 for the first time, or if you're moving up from an older version of iOS 11, your iOS 11.2.1 download and installation will take a lot longer.

The iPhone 6 is getting older, but it's still performing at a pretty high level. iOS 11.2.1 is running well for the most part though we continue to see occasional UI lag.

We haven't noticed any major issues with our device's battery life. We've spoken to several iPhone 6 users dealing with battery drain on iOS 11, but it hasn't been an issue for us yet.

Connectivity (Bluetooth, cellular data, and Wi-Fi) appears to be strong. We've successfully connected the device to several Bluetooth devices including headsets and speakers.

We've only been using the update for a short time, but app performance appears to be steady on iOS 11.2. We haven't seen any crashes yet.

Lag and random reboots have been a problem on our iPhone 6. Our device hasn't rebooted itself yet, but we've noticed lag.

Animations are occasionally choppy and we've experienced some keyboard lag when sending texts via Messages. This was a problem for us on iOS 11.2 as well.

It's a bit of a red flag and we'll keep our eyes on it as we push away from the iOS 11.2.1 update's release date.

If you're feeling leery, you might want to wait for long term iOS 11.2.1 feedback to emerge. We'll update this roundup with updated impressions in the days ahead.

In the meantime, take a look at our list of reasons to and not to install the iOS 11.2.1 update on your phone right now.
