The Pixel 2 (and Pixel 2 XL) have been heralded as the best smartphone cameras you can get on any device. This isn’t just because they feature great camera hardware, but because of Google’s AI-enhanced HDR+ technology. No other smartphone manufacturer can match it, but that isn’t going to stop them from trying.
In fact, some are getting pretty close in some scenarios. Take the OnePlus 5T for instance. The phone recently received a software update that looked to improve the phone’s photo taking capabilities. According to OnePlus, this mostly hard to do low light shots but if you were curious to see how the camera performs after the 4.7.4 update, someone took some beautiful landscape shots and pitted them against the current reigning champ: the Pixel 2.
While we fully expected the Pixel 2 to mop the floor with the OnePlus 5T, it surprisingly managed to hold its own, even taking a better photo depending on your own personal tastes. Occasionally shots on the OnePlus 5T were more vibrant, much sharper, and in some cases displayed more details in shadows.
I’m not quite sure I’d classify any of these shots as extreme low light — where the Pixel 2 truly shines — but it seems the OnePlus 5T has no trouble holding its own when it comes to landscape photos, even at dusk. For more comparison photos, hit up the source link below.
