The two dominant mobile operating systems in the market today offer unique user experiences. iOS has always been more restrictive. The ability to have apps written in native code has helped the performance side of things. Android users can customize just about everything out of the box, with even deeper mods available if you have root access. These differences aren’t the only things that divide the two communities apart. A new report claims Android customers have higher brand loyalty than iOS users.
We’ve seen dozens of comparison between people who go with iOS versus people who prefer Android. Some claim that iOS devices are purchased by the more wealthy communities while people who are more frugal choose Android. There was also a report that talked about first dates and how the numbers show that iOS users will likely choose to not go on a second date if the other person has an Android device.
Studies like this never truly give the full story as it’s virtually impossible to get this type of data from everyone. But it does give us an idea about certain trends that are happening with the two communities. A new report from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has collected some data that shows fans of Android tend to be more loyal to a specific brand. The difference here is rather small with Android having a 91% brand loyalty rate and iOS having an 86% loyalty rate.
It used to be that iOS customers were more loyal. However, this trend started shifting when Android was able to achieve parity in the availability of apps, music, video, and even overall design. Also, due to there being so many more Android users in the world, the data shows that more Android customers have switched to iOS than iOS customers have switched to Android. This doesn’t change much in the grand scheme of things right now and is just because Android has 88% of the global smartphone market.
