Fitbit announces Versa smartwatch and Ace activity tracker for kids
Back in August of last year, Fitbit officially unveiled its new Ionic smarwtach, which turned out to be pretty good. Now the company is back with a new smartwatch with a “more approachable” price tag and a brand new activity tracker for kids.
First up is the new smartwatch, the Fitbit Versa. According to the company, the Versa is the “lightest metal smartwatch” in the U.S. market right now. It has an anodized, ultra-thin aluminum body which is tapered and angled so that it can fit comfortably on both small and big wrists. The smartwatch has a touchscreen that offers 1,000 nits of brightness, and Fitbit says the Versa has a battery that can last more than 4 days on a single charge.
The Versa also supports a variety of standard Fitbit features, including 24/7 health tracking, the ability to load music directly onto the built-in storage, and automatic sleep detection. If you want to pay for things with your smartwatch, you’ll need to opt for the Fitbit Versa Special Edition, which has an NFC chip inside.
The Fitbit Versa will offer a new, personalized dashboard for easy-to-read and approachable information, by way of the company’s Fitbit OS 2.0 software. This will show a simplified version of the user’s health and fitness data. Fitbit says the dashboard will change over time, showing more personalized information and even offering up celebrations for milestones reached.
The Fitbit Versa can be pre-ordered beginning Wednesday, March 14, and it will be priced at $199.95. The Fitbit Versa Special Edition will retail for $229.95.
For the kids, Fitbit introduced today the Fitbit Ace. It’s an activity tracker, so it has a thinner and smaller profile than a standard smartwatch. It will automatically track steps, sleep, and general activity. The battery is said to last five days on a single charge.
Kids will be able to collect badges based on their activity level and listening to the prompts the Ace provides. The band will remind kids to stand and be active, so it will have a lot of ways for kids to earn those goals.
The Ace can be pre-ordered beginning today, and it will retail for $99.95. It will officially go on sale some time in the second quarter of this year.
