7 Xbox Game Pass Problems & Fixes

7 Xbox Game Pass Problems & Fixes is a post by Travis Pope from Gotta Be Mobile.

Don’t let Xbox Game Pass problems ruin your gaming session. Use this breakdown to overcome any issues you have with Microsoft’s gaming service and get your favorite games working again.

When it’s working correctly, Xbox Game Pass is an easy, cheap way to play games on your Xbox One, Xbox One S or Xbox One X. So long as you pay your $9.99 a month, you’re free to complete a game’s story, enjoy its multiplayer and unlock Achievements for your Xbox Live profile.

Xbox Game Pass problems can ruin that easy road to Achievements, though. Some games fail to download, even when it’s a game Microsoft has added to the Xbox Game Pass library. The service doesn’t let you instantly stream games like PlayStation Now does, leaving you at the mercy of the Microsoft Store’s download speeds. Because of that, it can take hours to fully download some games. Also, Xbox Game Pass discounts aren’t available for every game in the Game Pass library.

Here’s how to fix those Xbox Game Pass problems and more.

How to Fix Xbox Game Pass Downloading Problems

The Microsoft Store or your internet connection can cause Xbox Game Pass downloading problems.

To determine which one is causing the issue, pause the download and pick up your smartphone. Connect your phone to the same wireless network that your Xbox One uses. Now, browse a few websites with it.

If the page takes a longer than usual to load or doesn’t load at all, your internet connection is causing the Xbox Game Pass problems. Use Gotta Be Mobile’s guides to fixing internet issues to get the problem fixed. You may need to reset your wireless router and modem.

The Microsoft Store is causing your Xbox Game Pass downloading problems If web pages load on your smartphone or PC just fine. You can speed up the download by using your console’s Ethernet port to connect directly to your router, but that might require moving your console if you don’t have a very long Ethernet cable.

Don’t cancel the download and you may get to play your Xbox Game Pass game sooner than you think. You can play early story missions before an entire game has downloaded if that game supports it. Your Xbox One will alert you when you have enough of the game on your system to try.

How to Fix Xbox Game Pass on Windows Problems

Avoid Xbox Game Pass on Windows problems by knowing which games work on Windows 10 PCs and which games won’t don’t.

Your subscription only covers games that Microsoft has in the Game Pass Library. Also, you can only download an Xbox Game Pass title to your Windows PC and sync your game save  if that game is an Xbox Play Anywhere game. Look for the Xbox Play Anywhere symbol in the Microsoft Store.

Look for the Xbox Play Anywhere symbol to sync your game saves.

For example, Sea of Thieves is an Xbox Play Anywhere game coming to the Xbox Game Pass library. Expect to play that game on your PC for free. Your progress will sync between the Xbox One version and the PC version.

Quantum Break is an Xbox exclusive game and an Xbox Play Anywhere game. However, it is not in the Xbox Game Pass library. Because of that, you can’t play it for free. You must purchase a digital copy from the Microsoft Store.

If a Windows 10 game is in the Game Pass library, but crashes often and doesn’t work well, be sure to leave a review on the game’s store page. Next, check the game’s online support forum for details on how to get the game working correctly. Your graphics card might need the latest drivers from the GeForce Experience app.

How to Fix Xbox Game Pass Discount Problems

With Xbox Game Pass, you get 20% off digital games and 10% off add-ons. Xbox Game Pass discount problems are more a symptom of the service’s fine print than they are a glitch or issue.

If an Xbox Game Pass discount isn’t getting you the savings you thought it would, it’s probably because the game you’re trying to buy costs more in the Microsoft Store than other places. The service only takes its own prices into account, not the prices of competitors, like GameStop. Also, you can’t stack the Xbox Game Pass discounts with other savings, according to Microsoft. “Game Pass discounts are not combinable with other offers and are not redeemable for cash,” the service’s FAQ reads.

If you’re seeing no discount at all, remember that you only get a discount if a game is available in the Xbox Game Pass library to download. Think of this discount as an easy way to save on a game that you already know is leaving the service, not the serious way to save every week like Xbox Live Gold.

Finally, games that launched less than 30 days ago are not discounted through the service. You shouldn’t count on Game Pass as a way to save on new releases because of this limitation.

How to Fix Xbox Game Pass Sharing Problems

Check your console’s Home settings when you have Xbox Game Pass sharing problems.

Game Pass adds titles to your personal library, so the console treats the game as if you own it. As long as the console you are using is your Home Xbox One or you are logged in, everyone else can play your games with their account.

If you are having trouble sharing games with other people on the same console, use Gotta Be Mobile’s guide to Sharing Xbox One Games with Friends and Family to set the console you are gaming on right now as your Home Console.

How to Fix Xbox Game Pass Achievement Problems

You can unlock any Achievement in any game that you download through Xbox Game Pass. If you don’t think you’re unlocking Achievements, it’s possible you are just missing the notification.

The Xbox app for Windows 10 sometimes fails to let you know when you’ve unlocked an Achievement. You still have the Achievement, your PC just doesn’t send a notification. Use your smartphone or the Xbox app to look at your profile and confirm you have the Achievement.

The same thing can happen if you are on an Xbox One and an Achievement fails. Check your profile for it using the Xbox Guide. Also, your console needs a connection to Xbox Live to update your profile, so connect your console to the internet if it isn’t already connected.

How to Fix Xbox Game Pass Multiplayer Problems

You can’t play Xbox Game Pass games online without Xbox Live Gold.

Two things can cause Xbox Game Pass multiplayer problems.

First, check to confirm you have Xbox Live Gold. Do that from Account.Microsoft.com. Sign in and click on Subscriptions.

Don’t confuse Game Pass with Gold. Game Pass only unlocks a digital library of games. You still need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play with other people on Xbox Live. Xbox Live Gold costs $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year.

Second, check your internet connection. Browsing to your favorite website on a smartphone connected to the same network as your console will tell you if your internet is working. Use these guides to fix any internet problems that you have.

When your internet is working correctly and you know you have Xbox Live Gold, check Support.Xbox.com to confirm Xbox Live isn’t the cause of your Xbox Game Pass problems. Issues with the service can break online multiplayer. Look for a red exclamation at the top of the site. Click the Notify Me button on any problem to get a text message when Microsoft fixes that problem.

How to Find Xbox Game Pass Games

To find Xbox Game Pass games, open the My Games & Apps area on your console. Look for the Game Pass section in the menu bar on the left side of your screen. This area surfaces automatically when you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription and the Spring 2018 Xbox One Update.

All the Xbox Game Pass Games

The Xbox Game Pass library includes hundreds of Xbox One, Xbox 360 and original Xbox Games. New titles arrive and leave the service every month, so make sure it has the games you want before your subscription renews. If a favorite game of yours is leaving the service, use your Xbox Game Pass discount to save 20% on it.

Xbox Game Pass - $9.99

Xbox Game Pass - $9.99

Don't buy an Xbox exclusive game for $59.99. Spend the same amount of money on Xbox Game Pass and get access to that new game and over 100 other titles for six months.

It's the access to new games that make Xbox Game Pass so great. Beginning with the Sea of Thieves release, Microsoft will add every exclusive Xbox game to the Game Pass library on the day it launches.  That's on top of the other 100 or so titles you can play, a 10% discount on downloadable content and a 20% discount on Game Pass games that are at least a month old.

Xbox Game Pass costs $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year. A 14-day free trial lets you get a feel for the service without spending any money.
