As smartphone bezels continue to shrink, device makers are working to find new ways to combine having minimal bezels with including features that most people expect from a smartphone, like a front-facing camera. Some device makers have opted for a notch, but others are getting a bit more creative with their designs.
The Oppo Find X is a new Android smartphone with a pop-up camera system. When you're not using the cameras, both the front and back shooters are hidden. When you open the camera app, though, the entire top portion of the device motorizes up within around 0.5 seconds to reveal the cameras. Close the camera app and the cameras disappear again.
When it comes to the cameras themselves, the Oppo Find X has a dual rear camera setup with 16MP and 20MP sensors. There's also a 25MP front-facing camera. And because there's no fingerprint reader on the Find X, Oppo is using 3D facial tech that's also built in to the pop-up camera. When you turn on your phone and swipe up to unlock, the camera assembly will slide out to authenticate you.
Other features of the Oppo Find X include a 6.4-inch OLED screen with a 92.25 percent screen-to-body ratio, a Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of built-in storage. There are dual SIM slots for your work and personal needs, and Oppo has included a 3730mAh battery along with its own VOOC fast charge tech.
On the software side, the Oppo Find X runs Android 8.1 below Oppo's custom Color OS user interface.
The Oppo Find X will go on sale in China today. What's more, Oppo says that the Find X will be the first phone that it sells in North America and Europe. No information on availability in those regions is available right now, though.
The design of the Oppo Find X is super interesting thanks to its pop-up camera assembly, but it's also got some solid flagship-tier specs to back up that unique design. It's also exciting to hear that Oppo is planning to bring the Find X to North America and Europe, giving more people the chance to check out its pop-up camera and exposing more consumers to Oppo for the first time.
