Apple’s announced new iPhones, but some of you might want to skip the iPhone 9, iPhone XS, and iPhone X Plus in favor of next year’s models.

Apple plans to launch three new iPhone models in 2018. One is a 5.8-inch successor to the iPhone X dubbed iPhone Xs. One is a larger 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus dubbed iPhone Xs Max. And the third phone is a cheaper 6.1-inch LCD model dubbed iPhone Xr. The iPhone Xr comes in a variety of colors and features a cheaper price point.

The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max go on sale starting September 14th ahead of a release date on September 21st. iPhone Xr pre-orders begin on October 19th ahead of a release date on October 24th.

Those of you in the market for a new phone would be wise to go hands-on with Apple’s new products before buying (or waiting to buy) your next phone. Others might want to start thinking about waiting for next year’s crop of iPhones.

We’re likely a year away from most of the 2019 iPhone announcements, but we’ve already seen several credible rumors emerge as we push away from the iPhone Xs launch.

Apple’s 2019 phones are still in development which means plans can and likely will change before they’re unveiled to the public, but there are already some great reasons to think about waiting for next years models.

In this guide we’ll take you through reasons to consider waiting and also some reasons to think about settling on another device in 2018 or in the first half of next year.

Wait for Apple Pencil Support

Wait for Apple Pencil Support

At one point it looked like this year's iPhone models would get Apple Pencil support.

TrendForce claimed Apple would be bringing Apple Pencil support to the 2018 iPhone models. Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News also claimed Apple would pair the Apple Pencil with the 5.8-inch iPhone and 6.5-inch model. That obviously didn't happen, but that doesn't mean the rumors are dead in the water.

Respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple Pencil support could come, but that it will be awhile before it arrives.

Kuo has a very solid track record when it comes to iPhone rumors and we're inclined to believe him at this point.

If that's the case, you might have to wait until 2019, or later, for Apple to bring its stylus solution to the iPhone for the first time.

If you're looking for a top notch phone with a stylus in 2018, you'll want to take a long hard look at the Samsung Galaxy Note 9
