A lot of us enthusiasts here at XDA not only want major version updates as quickly as possible, but we also want to receive those monthly security updates as soon as they are announced as well. However, there’s another segment of the community who dislike Android’s OTA updates and have actually become afraid of them due to a bad incident in the past. So depending on which side of the fence you fall on, you may or may not be excited to hear that the Verizon Wireless variant of the LG V20 is finally getting its update to Android 8.0 Oreo.
Personally, I say that I’m happy to see that LG and Verizon Wireless have finally been able to update the LG V20 to Android 8.0 Oreo. Sure, it’s not Android 9 Pie, but at least it’s something. The LG V20 was launched in September of 2016 and many consider it to be the last of the LG V series of phones as the company removed the secondary display with the introduction of the LG V30. So as we have just passed the 2-year anniversary of the LG V20, Verizon customers can now look forward to an OTA update that will update its software to Android Oreo.
The update it’s getting is Android 8.0 Oreo as well (not even 8.1) which was released in August of last year. XDA Member wally86 let us know about this update in our LG V20 forum yesterday morning and the update has begun to gradually roll out to more people. Verizon is calling it Update 12 with its last update (number 11) going out in June and only included May’s security update. So, along with Update 12 for the LG V20 bringing all of the features we have come to enjoy from Android 8.0 Oreo, it also includes last months’ security updates as well.
So now LG V20 customers who bought their device from Verizon can enjoy access to the Android Oreo feature set which includes App Shortcuts, Notification Badges, structure changes of the Settings application, the Autofill service, and more.
