Nokia 9 appears in leaked video and renders with five rear cameras

HMD Global and Nokia are reportedly cooking up a new smartphone with five rear cameras, and today we're getting a good look at the unannounced phone and its penta-lens setup.

The Nokia 9 has been leaked in a new video and set of renders, giving us a good look at the five camera setup on the back of the phone. Unfortunately, there's no word yet on what all five of those cameras can do, but it's possible we'll see a depth-sensing lens and wide angle sensor in there. The setup also inlcudes a flash and some kind of other sensor.

Spec details for the Nokia 9 are still pretty light, but it's rumored that the phone could have a 5.9-inch QHD display with a single front-facing camera — yep, there's just one sensor on the front but five on the back — and a USB-C port on the bottom. There doesn't appear to be a 3.5mm headphone jack here, and we can't see a fingerprint reader either, suggesting that there may be an in-display fingerprint sensor included.

Dual rear camera setups have become the norm in the smartphone world, and some device makers are stepping up to a triple rear camera setup. Now it appears that HMD Global and Nokia are going to try and one-up (or two-up?) those companies with a penta-lens setup. We'll have to wait and see what kind of features HMD can pack into those five cameras, but the concept of having five different lenses on your smartphone does sound enticing.
