CEO of Cyanogen says it will remain an OS company [Update]

Kirt McMaster, the CEO of Cyanogen, has denied recent reports that the company is switching its strategy to apps, saying, “We are an OS company and our mission of creating an Open Android stands.”

Late last week, rumors hit the internet that Cyanogen had laid off as many as 20% of its team members. McMaster admitted to some layoffs, without revealing specific numbers, on his Twitter account:

Those same reports suggested Cyanogen was going to work more on apps rather than its alternative smartphone OS as part of a shift in its business. Today, McMaster posted again on Twitter to deny those rumors:

Nest’s new CEO tells employees it’s sticking with current plans and ‘is not for sale’

Nest’s new CEO Marwan Fawaz sent out an email to all of the employees of the connected device company, stating “Nest is not for sale”.

Fawaz took over as head of Nest, following the official departure of co-founder Tony Fadell from the company late last week. In a company email that was forwarded to The Verge, Fawaz says that Nest’s future product plans are still on track:

Many of you have asked if there’s a change in strategy or direction. There is not. We need to focus on delivering the great roadmap we have in place, beginning with [redacted]. This is how we’ll reset the narrative about Nest, reminding our customers, partners, and competitors of how we became the #1 connected home brand in the first place. Nest understands design, customer needs, and the importance of home. I know you will all work hard in the coming weeks to ensure we continue to surprise and delight our customers and I’m very excited to be a part of it.
